CHIARA LECCA

Biography

Chiara Lecca was born in 1977 in Modigliana (province of Forlì-Cesena, IT) where she lives and works. She grew up closely to nature and animals in the family farm. Of those years, marked by strong discoveries, she kept precious memories that largely define her artistic work, which is mainly expressed in installations and sculptures, also experimenting with photography and video art. Graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, her research focuses on the attempt of studying and highlighting the gap between nature and human being, particularly urgent in the contemporary society, and the inherent contradiction in the collective behavior that escapes its instinctive nature. Adopting animal derivates, her works stimulate a process of ambiguous semiotic turn. Taxidermy rabbit ears, hides and furs, bovine and swine bladders take on new forms where nature interacts with industrial and architectural components, represented by the materials coming from the productive chain, such as wood, ceramic, polyurethane and synthetic resin.

In 2020 Chiara Lecca founded Clarulecis Collective. In 2016 she was selected among the finalists of the XVII Cairo Prize and exhibited at Palazzo Reale, Milan. Her artworks have been exhibited in various institutions in Italy and Europe: in 2019 she was artist in residence at MACRO Asilo in Rome, in 2018 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid, in 2012 in the county Kassel for EUARCA – International European Art Camp, and in 2008 at the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte Art, in Turin.
Solo exhibitions were held in institutions such as: ex Chiesa di San Rocco, Modigliana (2021); Museo Carlo Zauli, Faenza (2017); Collezioni Comunali D’Arte – Palazzo D’Accursio, Bologna (2017); Ghisla Art Collection Foundation, Locarno (2016); Naturkundemuseum Ottoneum, Kassel (2015); Villa Rusconi, Castano Primo, Milan (2013); MAR – Museum of City Art, Ravenna (2010); Kunst Meran, Merano (2009).
Chiara Lecca also took part in group exhibitions in institutions such as: Palazzo San Giacomo, Russi, Ravenna (2022); Galleria d’Arte Contemporanea “Vero Stoppioni”, Santa Sofia (2019);

Museo Civico Varoli, Cotignola (2019); Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, Oslo (2018); Schloss Ambras, Innsbruck (2017); Palazzo Reale, Milan (2016); Museum Schloss Moyland, Bedburg-Hau (2016); Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Milan (2013); Gallerie d’Italia, Milan (2013); International Museum of Ceramics, Faenza (2012); Spazio Thetis, Venice (2011); PROGR Zentrum für Kulturproduktion, Bern (2008). The artist has been collaborating with Galleria Fumagalli since 2008. In the very same year her solo exhibition “Del maiale non si butta niente” was held at the former gallery in Bergamo, followed, in 2010, by the catalog “Quintoquarto” with texts by Martina Cavallarin and Valerio Dehò. The gallery also promoted the publication of the monograph “Quod Paret”, published on the occasion of her solo show at Naturkundemuseum Ottoneum, Kassel, in 2015. In 2017 Chiara Lecca was involved in the group show “Switch On 3”, and in 2022 her works were exhibited in the sixth exhibition (“Questioning the Functionality”) in the series “MY30YEARS – Coherency in Diversity”, entirely curated by Lóránd Hegyi.
