NATALY MAIER
Biography
Nataly Maier was born in Munich in 1957, she lives and works between Milan and Starnberg. After studying philosophy at the Leibniz-Kolleg in Tubingen, from 1979 to 1980 she attended the school of photography in Munich, starting to work as a professional photographer. Since the late ’80s her research has been focused on the overcoming of bi-dimensional photography and on the relation between photographed and painted color. During the 2000s the colorist experience was at the core of her work which led her to refuse represented subjects reaching an almost abstract dimension.
She has been showing her work in public and private institutions, such as: Palazzo Vivaldini Carra, Mantua (2013), Goetheinstitut, Lyon (2000), Palazzo Carignano, Turin (1992). Among the most important collective exhibitions in international institutions: Museo Civico G. Fattori, Livorno and Kunstverein Passau (2015), European Central Bank, Frankfurt (2004), Stadtmuseum, Munich (2000), Musée de Beaux Arts, Chambéry (1997), Jardins de Luxembourg, Paris (1995), Chateaux du Langoiran, Bordeaux (1994), Palazzo Ducale, Massa (1992), Villa San Rocca, San Gimignano (1988).
The collaboration between Nataly Maier and Galleria Fumagalli began in 1999 with her first personal entitled “Hand maps” followed by the presentation of a catalog, documenting her work based on the hand map as imaginary form drawn on canvas or on any other rigid material such as polished aluminium. In 2001 the gallery inaugurated a second solo exhibition entitled “In res naturae”.
