Galleria Fumagalli presents the double solo exhibition by Filippo Armellin and Mattia Bosco, for the first time invited to invest the gallery’s spaces and to bring their own photographic and sculptural works into dialogue. As the title, “IN | ORIGINE”, suggests the exhibition offers a visual experience on the theme of the origin, both as a formation and sedimentation of the natural matter and as an archetype or form of thought and human imagination. Drawing inspiration from a reflection on contemporary age’s care for space, juxtaposed to time that regulates culture and organizes our lives, Filippo Armellin creates images of desert and disindividualized places, spaces suspended in time. These environments, made at the same time fictitious and real – thanks to their photographic nature – represent an imaginary in which progress has taken over man and the future has come to fruition by encountering the origin, again. The landscapes portrayed by Filippo Armellin are, in fact, created with plastic models and painted backdrops set up in the studio. On show is a selection of never-seen- before works from the series Il Regno della Quantità (2019) and La Crisi dei Simboli (2019), characterized by the presence of architectural ruins set in nocturnal (in the first) and diurnal (in the second) landscapes.

Mattia Bosco searches for the origin, where everything started before time was History, exploring the boundaries of the tangible and the spaces that exceed the limits of reality, finding in the stone the sign of this principle. The rock surface, expression of a millenary geology, is carefully selected in the mountains of the Val d’Ossola and transformed into a sculpture by the artist’s gesture, which does not invent a new form, but follows its natural process bringing out its profiles. Mattia Bosco intervenes on mineral aggregates transforming the material not only in its conformation but also with the addition of external bodies such as steel inserts and applied gold leaf. Examples of the first type of work are Lago nero (2014), a sculpture in black Marquinia marble whose shape alludes to the sedimentation that time marks on the stone as if the rock were time in a solid state, and a group of Carrara marble sculptures with sloping lines carved by a three-axis robot (Henraux). To the second type of works, insertion of new materials in the stone, belong the sculptures Sezione aurea (2017), in black rosewood marble and gold leaf, and a group of stones (2018) in black rosewood marble with inserted steel and iron spikes.

Filippo Armellin was born in Montebelluna in the province of Treviso in 1982, he lives and works in Milan. After graduating in Design and Production of Visual Arts at IUAV in Venice, in 2010 he obtains a diploma in Photography from the R. Bauer Institute in Milan. In 2016 is selected among the finalists of the XVII Cairo Prize. Among the participations in group exhibitions in institutions: Palazzo Reale, Milan (2017), PAN | Palazzo delle Arti, Naples (2013), Documenta, Kassel (2012), Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa, Venice (2007). Mattia Bosco was born in Milan in 1976, lives and works between Milan and the Ossola mountains. His exhibition projects have been help at: Palazzo Borromeo, Milan (2019), Ex Cimitero San Pietro in Vincoli, Turin (2018), Cascina Maria, Nicoletta Rusconi Art Projects, Agrate Conturbia (2018, 2017), Museo Diocesano, Milan (2015, 2008), Triennale Design Museum, Milan (2013), Limewharf, London (2013), Church of St. Stefano, Milan (2007). In 2014 he was elected among the finalists of the XV Cairo Award, and in 2012 he came second ex aequo at the Henraux Foundation Award.

“I’m pretty sure there’s plenty of deals around that can be done to stop it from doing that,” he
