Galleria Fumagalli and Spazioborgogno present video works, drawings e studies belonging to the three Portraits by Peter Welz. Since 2008 the German artist has been working on the study and research of three subjects: Francis Bacon, Casa Malaparte and Michelangelo Antonioni. On show, the second solo after the first one in Bergamo in 2009, a selection of works from the three portraits. The first portrait is the re-translation of Francis Bacon’s unfinished portrait by the choreographer William Forsythe.

The installation has been shown at the Musee du Louvre in Paris, Galleria Nazionale d’arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome and recently at MoMA Tokyo. The second one is a portrait as architecture, almost sculptural. Casa Malaparte, “una casa come me: dura, triste, severa”, is a private house situated in Capri Island, on a bristly and narrow rocky promontory, that seems to sunrise from sea. Conceived by Adalberto Libera, it is considered one of the masterpiece of modern architecture, representing a good example of integration between rational modernity and natural environment.

In 1963 Jean Luc Godard shot parts of the film “La Mèpreis”, of which is famous the scene of Brigitte Bardot and Michel Piccoli sunbathing on the roof of the Villa. In this case the installation is extended by projecting the images of Casa Malaparte within the ‘Barcelona Pavilion’ by Mies van der Rohe, opening a dialogue between two key-works of modern architecture. The third portrait derives from the specimens from Michelangelo Antonioni’s film “Deserto Rosso”.
