ART & COAL. HOMAGE TO JANNIS KOUNELLIS
Jannis Kounellis’ work is at the centre of the exhibition “Art & Coal. Homage to Jannis Kounellis” at the Museum Küppersmühle of Modern Art in Duisburg. In addition to steel, stone and textiles, coal has been one of the fundamental materials with which Kounellis, throughout his career, has created installations that celebrate the archaic energy of this combustible rock. Also on show are works by Ayşe Erkmen, Anselm Kiefer, Michael Sailstorfer, Sun Xun, Timm Ulrichs and Bernar Venet who pay homage to the “poor” material chosen by Kounellis.
