The exhibition Pompei@Madre. Materia Archeologica: The Collections is based on a rigorous research project resulting from the collaboration between the Archaeological Park in Pompei, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world, and the MADRE Museum in Naples. Starting from the comparison between their own research methods, disciplinary fields, collections, this exhibition focuses on the possible, multiple relationships between archaeological heritage and artistic research, offering a dialogue between extraordinary but little-known archaeological materials, all from Pompei, and works of modern and contemporary art. The exhibition path begins in the entrance hall and on the first floor of the MADRE, which houses the museum’s historical collections. The juxtaposition with works and artifacts from Pompeii puts the works of Palazzo Donnaregina’s collection into perspective, transforming it for a whole year into a real contemporary domus. Among the works exhibited also Jannis Kounellis.
