THORSTEN BRINKMANN

DAMNATIO FIGURÆ. DALLA NEGAZIONE DELL'IMMAGINE AL RITRATTO

Thorsten Brinkmann takes part at the exhibition DAMNATIO FIGURAE. Dalla negazione dell’immagine al ritratto, the group show at Fondazione Alberto Peruzzo from 19 June to 5 October 2025, curated by Marco Trevisan.

The exhibition explores the artworks that are able to
dialogue with the public through concealing the figure itself. The group show has a core of selected artworks into dialogue with portraits by important artists from the Foundation’s collection, which address the theme of image representation in a more classical way, promoting new reflections.

Thorsten Brinkmann in his artworks ironically explores the relationship between contemporary society and art-historical culture. In portraits – such as Leonelle D’Ohro (2009), shown in the exhibition – the German artist conceals the faces of his subjects, ironically denying the concept of portrait.

On view also artworks by the following artists: Donald Baechler, Fernando Botero, Maurizio Cattelan, Felice Casorati, Sandro Chia, Aron Demetz, Endless, Max Ernst, Enzo Fiore, Jannis Kounellis, Julio Larraz, Zoran Music, Mimmo Paladino, Nicola Samorì, Mariano Sardón, Manolo Valdés, Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselman.
