OFF NIBROLL
Biography
Keisuke Takahashi, videomaker and visual director, and Mikuni Yanaihara, choreographer and dancer, are the Japanese duo of Off-Nibroll, combining dance and video art. Takahashi is director of the Nibroll Company, collective of interdisciplinary arts which has created numerous videos and performances and participated in numerous art festivals all over the world. Takahashi’s work has been presented in various countries including China and Italy. In 2004 he received the MAM Contemporary Award from the Mori Art Museum, and two years later the Committee Recommendation Award from the Japan Media Arts Festival.
Mikuni Yanaihara started to dance at high school obtaining numerous awards for her performances, including the NHK Award, national dance competition. After graduating at the Department of Dance at the Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences she has been living in Brazil where discovered traditional primitive dances. Since the founding of Nibroll collective in 1997, Yanaihara took part in numerous festivals including the Oregon Dance Festival, the San Francisco Butoh Festival and the Berlin Fusion Festival, where she received an excellent critique as choreographer.
The first single performance of duo Off-Nibroll entitled “A room” took place at the Tranceplant Gallery in New York in 2005. Other performances were held in important institutions, among the most recent: Sainokuni Museum, Japan (2017, 2012), Institut Français, Tokyo (2014), Gu Ling Theater, Taipei (2009). The collaboration with Galleria Fumagalli began in 2011 with a performance of the two artists held in the gallery’s spaces in Bergamo.
