Giò Marconi, Christian Stein and Galleria Fumagalli inaugurate a triple exhibition by Giuseppe Uncini, five years after the important solo exhibitions in September 2002, held in the two locations in Milan, proposing a new anthological path dedicated to the artist. Uncini’s complex and original research has always aimed at building equilibrium and attention to the use of materials and metals such as reinforced concrete and iron. In 1958 he created his first Cementoarmato, a work built with cement that materializes space and sign, sign as presence, space as measure, no longer “a representing painting” but a “self-signifying” object. From 1962 to 1965 he worked at Ferrocementi, works in which the reinforcing bar draws on the neutral cement surface a play of spatial contrasts between line and surface.

In 1965 he created the Strutturespazio, geometric objects – made of steel or polished aluminum – in which he specifically experimented with the three-dimensionality that leads him to the next search, that is the Ombre in which he materially built both the object and its shadow. In 1968 he conceived the Porta aperta con ombra created by the client Palma Bucarelli for the Galleria Nazionale in Rome. Then comes the series of works Mattoni: walls, columns, arches, portals, which were built with the essential form of the brick and compared themselves with their cement shadows. From the end of the Seventies the Dimore: buildings, doors, windows, thresholds with their shadows, sculptures-containers which represent housing. The artist’s research continues in 1987 with the Spazi di ferro, works in which iron grids define a possible space between two or more volumes, followed by Spazicemento, Tralicci, Muri di cemento and Architetture in 1993.

Christian Stein presents a large-dimension Architettura (2007) and a selection of works on paper from the 1960s to the present. Giò Marconi exhibits four other works: Sedia con ombra and Finestra con ombra (1968) and two Dimore (1982), a group of works made of mixed techniques on paper, studies on shadows and on dwellings. At Galleria Fumagalli, Giuseppe Uncini’s most recent works are exhibited: the Spazicemento, the Muri di cemento and the Architetture with some historical works, such as Mattoni, Cementarmato and Dimora. In 2008, three major exhibitions by Giuseppe Uncini were scheduled in Graz, at the Neue Galerie am Landesmuseum Joanneum, at the Museum fur Neue Kunst in Karlsruhe and at the Mart in Rovereto.
