Galleria Fumagalli presents the solo show “Il cemento disegnato” by Giuseppe Uncini, dedicated to the artist’s works on paper. Drawings, temperas, collages and watercolours, approximately 50 works realized between 1957 and 2006, are shown for the first time in public. Curated by Annamaria Maggi, the exhibition is an important occasion to analyze Uncini’s whole work on paper, from the first Terre of the late 1950s up to the following Cementarmati, Ferrocementi, Mattoni, Ombre, Dimore, Spazi di ferro, Spazicemento and to conclude the Architetture.
From the beginning of his artistic career, Giuseppe Uncini manifested a great interest in work on paper, studying and exploring numerous expressive techniques in symbiosis with his sculpture. Uncini constructs volumes and spaces that are closely related to the techniques and materials they consist of, such as iron and cement. The exhibition is closely associated with the most recent solo shows dedicated to Giuseppe Uncini, such as at the ZKM in Karlsruhe, then at the Mart in Rovereto and finally at the Neue Galerie of Graz, where for the first time several works on paper belonging to the Cementarmati and the Ombre series were shown.
The exhibition in Bergamo features Uncini’s entire artistic excursus on paper with several sculptures created from the early 1960s up to his latest works, several of which have never been shown. This show aims at underlining the broad relationship of the specular quality and interaction between sculpture and works on paper, which mutually communicate in the work of Uncini. An extensive monograph will be presented on the occasion of the exhibition, focusing on the work-on-paper by Uncini with text by Franco Fanelli and Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, published by Silvana Editoriale.
