VISIONI. 20 ARTISTI A SANT'AGOSTINO
9 April to 11 June 2005
Text
The exhibition “Visioni. 20 artisti a Sant’Agostino” is organized by the non-profit Associazione onlus di Segno in Segno, with the patronage of the Municipality of Bergamo, the Province of Bergamo, the Lombardy Region and the Bergamo Industrial Union. On this occasion curator Annamaria Maggi invited twenty artists to conceive an original environmental work: Agostino Bonalumi, Lawrence Carroll, Chiara Dynys, Giorgio Griffa, Jannis Kounellis, Sol Le Witt, Jason Martin, Maurizio Nannucci, Nunzio, Roman Opalka, Mimmo Paladino, Gianfranco Pardi, Peter Welz, Arcangelo Sassolino, Marco Tirelli, David Tremlett, Giuseppe Uncini, Claude Viallat, Peter Wuethrich, Gilberto Zorio.
17 rooms are set up along the central nave of the church, while two rooms are placed in the side chapels and one in the apse. For the 17 works set up in the central nave, a particular fruition is foreseen: visitors are led from one space to another without interruption. This incessant succession of rooms, which creates a sudden change of visions, increases the sensory stimulation – already induced by the works – in a very heterogeneous way, including works of painting, sculpture, video, sound and lightning installation, photography, etc.
Each artist dialogue with the space, analyzing it, modifying it, and deforming it in its own environment, so as to create a relationship with the visitor. For the occasion, an extensive documentary research will be featured in a volume that collects the critical essays by: Luca Massimo Barbero, Bruno Corà, Alberto Fiz, Annamaria Maggi and Ada Masoero. It will present the projects and studies that led to the creation of the works, as well as a substantial research on the artists’ work and biographical and bibliographical notes.
