RICHARD WILSON
SPACE SHIFTERS
The group exhibition “Space Shifters” brings together sculptures and installations that explore perception and space. Richard Wilson re-presents the work 20:50 conceived in 1987 and set up for the first time at the Matt’s Gallery in London. Wilson filled one of the upper galleries in the Hayward Gallery with engine oil, leaving only a narrow passageway through the centre. The surface of the dark, dense substance mirrors the space above it and creates for the viewer the vertiginous impression of being suspended within a curiously doubled and seemingly infinite environment.
