CARLO LORENZETTI

Biography

Carlo Lorenzetti was born in 1934 in Rome where he lives and works. After attending the Académie de France at Villa Medici, he began to exhibit at the end of the ‘50s. Since the ‘60s, he produced abstract and geometric sculptures, finding a place within the contemporary artistic milieu: he chose the metal plate, sometimes polished, as his expressive means, as plan of invention of shapes, both for wall and floor sculptures. The sheets were folded, cut and crossed by bands of color, revealing the third spatial dimension and denying any solid mass and material weight. Scholar of the Accademia di San Luca since 1999, he was elected President during the biennial 2015-2016.

His exhibition history includes significant solo shows held in institutions such as: GNAM, Rome (2018), Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Rome (2015), Museo Civico Umberto Mastroianni, San Marino (2011), Palazzo Cuttica, Alessandria (2010), Castello di Pergine Valsugana (1998), Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Ferrara (1996), Galleria Civica, Modena (1992), Oratory of San Sebastiano, Forlì (1990), Palazzo dei Consoli, Gubbio and Palazzo Comunale, Salò (1986), Museo di Anghiari (1972). He also participates the international exhibitions: Rome Quadriennale (1999, 1986, 1973, 1965), Venice Biennale (1986, 1976, 1972, 1970), Sao Paulo Biennial (1975, 1967).

Among the group shows held in institutions: MACRO, Rome (2017), MUSMA, Matera (2013), Academy of San Luca, Rome (2008), Palazzo Rondanini, Rome (1991), Kunstverein, Frankfurt am Main and Galleria Civica, Modena (1987). Carlo Lorenzetti also participated in international events, such as: Rome Quadriennale (1999, 1986, 1973, 1965), Venice Biennale (1986, 1976, 1972, 1970), Sao Paulo Biennial (1975, 1967). The collaboration with Galleria Fumagalli began in 2001 with the opening of a solo show titled “Carlo Lorenzetti. Works 1958-1999”, followed by the publication of a catalog curated by Marco Meneguzzo.

    gefahren.
