PETER WUETHRICH
PETER WUETHRICH
Biography
Peter Wüthrich was born in Berne in 1962, lives and works between the capital city and Interlaken. Since the early ’90s, his work has been focused on the written word and, in particular, on the object “book” which he takes as the constitutive element of most of his creations. The artist sees the book as a physical witness of the past knowledge, but also as a forerunner of what is still to come. This physicality is highlighted by the aesthetic value of the object-book that Wüthrich choses and exhibits according to its sculptural and coloristic features. In addition to his installations, also the photographic project started in Los Angeles in 2000, performed in various cities worldwide and still ongoing – “The Angels of the World” – emphasizes the book’s physical feature. The artist gives a book to some passers-by who wear it open on the shoulders as if they were angel wings, thus becoming custodians and harbingers of an immaterial message.
Peter Wüthrich has been exhibiting his work in solo exhibitions in institutions all over the world, such as: Kunsthalle Marcel Duchamp, Cully (2022), Kunstraum Satellit, Thun (2021), Foundation Paulo Coelho et Christina Oiticica, Geneva (2019),

His collaboration with Galleria Fumagalli began in 2004 with his first solo exhibition followed by the monograph “Literary Towers”, including a text by Bruno Corà. Both the exhibition and the publication were made in partnership with Galleria Christian Stein, Milan. In the same year he participated in the group show “AA.VV. 30”, which inaugurates the expanded space of the gallery in Bergamo. Together with other nineteen artists, Wüthrich took part also in the exhibition “Visioni” (Visions) at the former Sant’Agostino church in Bergamo (2005). In 2012 the gallery, with Spazioborgogno, included some of his works in the show “Switch On” at Pecci Museum in Milan. In 2021 and 2022 his pieces were exhibited in the second and the fifth shows in the series “MY30YEARS – Coherency in Diversity” entirely curated by Lóránd Hegyi.
