ARCIPELAGO ITALIA. PROJECTS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY'S INTERIOR TERRITORIES

The five-stage project of “Archipelago Italia” at the Italian Pavilion, conceived by curator Mario Cucinella for the Architecture Biennale 2018, concerns all of Italy. The aim is the development of five strategic projects for the re-launch of internal areas: projects that are currently being developed with the involvement of some experts who have been chosen by Cucinella. The Gibellina stage is the starting point to widen the gaze on the Valle del Belice: for the occasion the never-completed Auditorium has been opened to the public. It is a construction begun in 1984 conceived by Mazarese sculptor Pietro Consagra who also created La porta del Belice, a star-shaped sculpture that gives access to the city, and the Meeting, a sculptural building placed perpendicular to the auditorium and characterized by the same formal research based on the interplay of curved and continuous planes.
