Text

Marco Tirelli conceived an exhibition project in three stages, starting with the first exhibition at the Mathildenhöhe Institute in Darmstadt, passing through the second exhibition at Galleria Fumagalli in Bergamo, and ending with the inauguration of the third exhibition at the GAM in Bologna. The monumental work carried out for Darmstadt, after been modified and varied in some of its parts, is reset in the gallery spaces; while it was transformed and expanded, alongside other important works created for the occasion, in the large spaces of Bologna.

Marco Tirelli (Rome, 1956) started his artistic career at the end of the seventies presenting himself to the public between the abstract European culture and the Italian metaphysical tradition. Tirelli’s work aims at a rigorous use of geometry, not as an abstract speculation of minimalist trend but as a “distillation of reality”. Today the artist is an architect of imaginary places, builders of memory theaters in which light and shadow mark the experience of the limit.

On the occasion of the exhibition in Darmstadt, a monograph is published featuring the last 15 years of the artist’s work, with a text by Klaus Wolbert, director of the Institut Mathildenhöhe of Darmstadt (Germany), published in Italian/German. While for the two exhibitions in Italy there is a second edition of the monograph with texts by Klaus Wolbert, Peter Weiermair and Giorgio Verzotti, published in Italian/English. Both books are in co-edition with Charta.
